Maldon district: new project will offer people with dementia and their carers creative and social activities
MALDON district's recently-formed dementia action group has welcomed a new project to help support people who are still suffering isolation following the pandemic.
The 'This Happy Place' initiative will offer creative and social activities to meet individuals' needs and has been launched by Essex County Council.
As the county comes out of lockdown 'This Happy Place' aims to build the resilience of those living with dementia in the community and their carers, as well as those in care settings so that they can have a fulfilling return to society.
Sarah Troop, Chair of the Maldon District Dementia Action Alliance, said about the scheme: "There have been a lot of challenges for the community during the pandemic and the loss of structure and routine and access to services has been particularly difficult for people with dementia and their carers.
The Happy Place initiative brings together some great organisations to offer creative and social activities for the benefit of individuals health and wellbeing.
"The Maldon Dementia Action Alliance is keen to encourage people to take part but also to look locally for activities and services that can connect them with their communities. There are a range of activities such as walks for wellbeing, the new community gardening project, carers support and social groups taking place across the district.
For people who would like to connect with the Happy Place initative which first launches as an online service, there is local support to get online and learn some digital skills through the MDCVS (Maldon District Community Volunteer Service) Connect project. "
Anyone wanting to find out more about any of the above can contact the MDCVS offices on 01621 851891 or email: [email protected]
