Maldon Film Club raises a glass to 2023 and gives us all the details on their 2024 plans

Maldon Film Club celebrates a fantastic year of film with a number of interesting screenings.

Maldon Film Club's current season continued with the screening of Brian and Charles, Lunana – a Yak in the Classroom and A Man Called Otto starring Tom Hanks.

The final film of 2023, Blind Ambition, is to be screened Tuesday December 19

Blind Ambition follows four friends who have conquered the odds to become South Africa's top sommeliers after escaping starvation and tyranny in their homeland of Zimbabwe. Driven by relentless optimism, a passion for their craft and a sense of national pride, they form Zimbabwe's title first national wine tasting team and set their sights on the coveted title of "World Wine Tasting Champions."

2024 Plans

Maldom Drama Club will commence the new year with a  screening of Master Cheng on Wednesday January 3 followed by Close Wedbesday January 17.

Master Cheng  follows professional chef, Cheng, who travels to a village in Finland to meet up with an old friend following the death of his wife. His friend, a local cafe owner, offers him accommodation and in return Cheng helps her in the kitchen. Gradually through his cooking Cheng becomes a celebrated member of the community. Unfortunately his tourist visa is soon to run out. What will the villagers do now?

Close is the story of two inseparable thirteen year olds, Leo and Remi, who seem to share an unbreakable brotherly bond. It is as if nothing can ever come between them. However, when their friendship catches the attention of their schoolmates, Leo and Remi's close relationship is put to the test and tragically torn apart. Nothing will ever be the same again!

The season continues until May 22, with films being shown on Wednesdays' from January onwards.

The price of an annual subscription is £30, which entitles members to free admission to all of the season's films.

There are also a limited number of places for junior members aged 16-18 in full time education. 

Members' may invite guests to a film evening for just £4 per person per film.
