Maldon Film Club's 20th season has got of to a tremendous start – great films and some 100 members coming along to each screening.

The season continues with the screening of the award winning One Life on Tuesday, 5 November and Pig on Tuesday, 19 November'

One Life, starring Anthony Hopkins, tells the true story of Sir Nicholas 'Nicky' Winton, a young London broker who, in the months leading up to World War II, rescued 669 predominantly Jewish children from the Nazis.

Nicky visited Prague in December 1938 and found families who had fled the rise of the Nazis in Germany and Austria, living in desperate conditions with little or no shelter and food, and under threat of Nazi invasion.

He immediately realized it was a race against time. How many children could he and the team rescue before the borders closed?

Fifty years later, it's 1988 and Nicky lives haunted by the fate of the children he wasn't able to bring to safety in England; always blaming himself for not doing more. It's not until a live BBC television show, 'That's Life', surprises him by introducing him to some surviving children - now adults - that he finally begins to come to terms with the guilt and grief he had carried for five decades.

Pig, another award winning film, stars Nicolas Cage as Rob, a taciturn meditative hermit in the Oregon wilderness whose only companion is a truffle hunting pig. Rob's only income and outside contact comes from selling truffles every week to businessman Amir. When his pig goes missing  Rob is inconsolable and only wants his best friend back. If necessary he will go to the edge of the world to find the pig even if this means returning to Portland and his past.

Films for December are the highly acclaimed Perfect Days and The Last Bus starring Timothy Spall which is described as a heart warming tale. Prior to the screening of The Last Bus the club will be holding its first social of the season.
