Maldon: Limebrook u3a's August newsletter - Up, Up and Away

By The Editor 7th Sep 2021

The following is Limebrook u3a's August newsletter - with an open invitation for anyone interested in joining this very active group to find out more.

Limebrook u3a has been making the most of the opportunities to meet and continue its activities. At the Monthly Meetings on Zoom, guests have attended and this has resulted in new members joining, having experienced a meeting and seen what the group all about.

One new member, David Morphew, who joined this way was with The Walking Group who did a six-mile walk. The trip took in Beeleigh Falls and the Museum of Power. Jo Madge, who arranged the walk, said it is important to support local businesses and that the food was good and the service was excellent. David also plans to join our History Group.

The Monthly Newsletter for July was a Bumper Edition with all the Groups contributing articles. A new publication called 'The Interest Groups Guide' was also circulated. They were both sent by email to everyone, and the committee members hand-delivered printed copies to those who are not on the internet.

Howard Corlett has started to write articles for the newsletter on the subject of Cyber Crime. The first subject was highly informative covering what we need to do regarding passwords. The link to the newsletter is here.

In August, most of the Interest Groups will be meeting although there is no Main Monthly Meeting at the West Maldon Community Centre. The group has booked Friday, 10th September for the Monthly Meeting at 2pm and members are excited about seeing Vince Eager. He is a professional speaker, and his talk is entitled 'What time is the Midnight Buffet?'. Vince spent 14 years as a cruise director and will be revealing the hilarities and horrors that go on behind the scenes on deck and in the ports.

This meeting is already booked for Zoom, too, and we again guests are invited to attend. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Tim Stubbings, the membership secretary, on 01621 855158 and he will provide information and links.

The theme of 'Up, Up and Away' for this article was inspired by Chris Smith who won the Photography Competition with her image of a hot air balloon, the subject being yellow. This also captured thoughts about the coming months as we move up and away to enjoy our interests and activities again. The winner of the Photoshop Image competition was Brian Harris with his picture of flowers.

To find out more about this friendly group, just search for Limebrook u3am- it could lead to a new and exciting adventure with people who have shared hobbies and interests.
