Maldon MP takes part in Grand National Charity Bet Campaign

Sir John Whittingdale visited the Coral Bookmakers in Maldon High Street to take part in the Grand National Charity Bet Campaign organised by the Betting and Gaming Council.
The Grand National, which takes place on Saturday April 5, is the most popular horse race in the world, watched by around 600 million people with an estimated 13 million adults in the UK placing a bet on it.
As part of the Charity Bet Campaign, Sir John was given a £50 complimentary charity bet which he placed on "I Am Maximus" at 9 to 1.
If his horse wins, the winnings and £250 will go to Maldon HomeStart which is Sir John's chosen charity. If it does not win, the BGC will still make a £250 donation to the charity.
Sir John said: "It was a pleasure to meet Karen, the Coral Area Manager and Colin who runs betting shop in Maldon. Millions of people will enjoy a flutter next Saturday on the National and I am sure the shop will be busy.
"I am delighted that the BGC have organised this Charity Bet Campaign which means that Maldon HomeStart will receive £250 and £2,500 if the horse wins!"
