Organisers of the Maldon Mud Race last Sunday (May 14) have celebrated another successful year, with 300 participants joined by more than 15,000 spectators.

The "spectacular" Mud Race, held annually in Maldon's Promenade Park, saw a full day of stage entertainment provided by BBC Essex, including a DJ a set from soul legend John Leech.

Brian Farrington, Chairman of the Mud Race, said: "We were so lucky with great weather again this year, plus a huge community turnout which will allow us to distribute a large amount of money to many local charities.

"I want to thank all the entrants, spectators, sponsors, and volunteers who made this incredible event happen."

As always, some famous faces could be spotted taking part - until they were covered in mud.

Mr Farrington added: "We were so lucky this year that comedian Jo Brand, her lovely daughter Maisie and Maisie's boyfriend Alfie once again supported us - along with BBC Essex's Sonia Watson, Ben Fryer, and Matt Mackay, as well as Becky Jago from ITV News Anglia.

"The additional publicity we received from all their support ensured we had another phenomenal event here in Promenade Park."

Jo Brand started the race, as her daughter took part to raise funds in memory of Jo's late brother, and comedian Sean Lock - who took part in the Mud Race with Jo in 2010.

The Mud Race is supported by a range of local sponsors, including Porsche Centre Colchester, Savills Chelmsford, Swish Fibre, John Fowler LLB, Tesco, and more.

Featuring a variety of artisanal food and drink, and a colourful array of costumes from hundreds of entrants, this year's event was sure to please.
