The Maldon Mud Race provides a notoriously sticky challenge

Organisers of Maldon's world famous mud race are planning to put the event on again in August - hoping that the threat from Covid-19 will have been reduced by then.

The challenge of The Maldon Mud Race is to race through the thick and sticky mud of the estuary off of Promenade Park.

The spectacle, which attracts thousands of visitors each year, was last put on in 2019, with the 2020 event cancelled due to the pandemic.

The race was originally scheduled for May, but the organisers have moved the date to Sunday,15 August, in the hope that the vaccination programme may have helped to return life to something a little more like normal by then.

Maldon Mud Race chairman Brian Farrington said: "As our first thoughts must be the health and safety of competitors, spectators, sponsors and our team, we feel a later date will allow for sufficient time for the vaccination programme to make a significant difference and to reduce the risks for all concerned."

This year's main sponsor is again Colchester Porsche and there will be many new names supporting the event including new Maldon business PGR Builder & Timber Merchants, shortly to open in the area, as well as Maldon catering experts Events Factor Ltd, who will bring many artisan food and drink suppliers.

You can find out more about the event, including sponsorship opportunities, by visiting the Maldon Mud Race website through the link here.
