PLANS for a new wooden kiosk selling refreshments at Promenade Park's Pirate Bay Adventure Golf course have been given the go-ahead by Maldon District Council (MDC).

The kiosk plans had caused some controversy, with Maldon Town Council recommending they should be refused because of size and scale.

However, members of MDC's Central Area Planning Committee - which has the final say on the issue - decided on Wednesday evening (21 April) that the plans should be approved, though it was a close vote with six members voting for and four against.

Some members remained concerned about the size of the kiosk and whether an existing permission on the site for a cafe could mean that would be built in addition to the new kiosk.

However, officers explained that building the cafe would necessitate removing the kiosk due to space - and that other kiosks on the mini-golf grounds were only temporary until the new refreshments outlet was built.

The timber kiosk will have two serving hatches and occupy a currently empty corner of the attraction's fenced space, close to wooden seating.
