Maldon Prom's Splash Park closes for 10 days as pandemic spoils more summer holiday fun

By The Editor 7th Sep 2021

Maldon District Council (MDC) has announced that its Splash Park will be closed for 10 days.

The Splash Park, which is located within Promenade Park, is a popular location for family visits and would usually be busy during the summer period.

The facility has been closed today (Thursday, 12 August) as behind-the-scenes staff who maintain the equipment have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

An MDC spokesperson said: "The difficult decision has therefore been taken to close. Any customers with bookings have been contacted and a refund arranged as a priority.

"The staff affected are not the front-line staff visitors are used to seeing and there is no increased risk of Covid. The Splash Park does of course have Covid secure measures in place."

Councillor Wendy Stamp, Leader of Maldon District Council, said: "The Splash Park is a well loved and well used facility, so we understand that this decision will be very disappointing. The timing during the school holidays is particularly unfortunate.

"However, while key staff are unable to work, the facility cannot be maintained so we have therefore taken the difficult decision to close.

"Staff have been working to contact anyone affected by this closure and arranging a refund for them as a priority.

"We thank everyone for bearing with us and as soon as we have an update we will let everyone know."
