The grand amphitheatre at Maldon Promenade Park will soon undergo "much-needed" restoration and improvement works.

The unmissable feature has been used as a performance space and social area in the park for 20 years, overlooking the lake and the River Blackwater.

A spokesperson for Maldon District Council said: "After enduring various weather conditions, high foot traffic, and numerous events, it's time to enhance the amphitheatre's structural integrity, add core strengthening, and improve ground protection on either side.

"Once complete, the new and improved amphitheatre will not only remain a prominent focal point in the park, but it will also feature enhanced safety measures and greater accessibility, making it a more functional asset for the community."

The decommissioning of the current structure is scheduled to start at the end of January/early February, with the majority of the work expected to last around three weeks.

The amphitheatre is commonly used to host staging during events at the park, and is a start point for hundreds of Maldon Prom Parkrun and Junior Parkrun runners every weekend.

The top platform is also used as a popular seating area serving the Mrs Salisbury's in the park kiosk.
