Work is underway to open a brand-new Subway branch at The Old Ironworks in Maldon next week, so Nub News was invited to take a sneak peek.

Franchisee Shahin Ahmed runs the Subway branch in Maldon High Street, and is hoping to attract more family customers with his new restaurant. Located near Tesco, Kwik-Fit and the nearby Blackwater Retail Park, Shahin is confident his business is in a prime location.

He told Nub News: "We're within walking distance for lots of new and current residents living in Maldon and Heybridge.

"With more homes being built nearby, it is important to have a convenient venue for freshly prepared and healthy food."

Subway will open at Unit 3a, Ironworks, Fullbridge Road, Maldon this Wednesday (August 30).

There will be a special opening event promotion, with free cookies being given out throughout the day. Other freebies and deals will be on offer during the first week of opening.

With its modern décor, free parking, and ample seating, it is hoped this new branch will attract more families than its High Street counterpart. However, Shahin says the store will offer a variety of home delivery options, too.

He said: "We are working with Uber Eats, but Subway has also hired drivers to deliver food via Just Eat."

The new store has employed around 10 new staff, but Shahin says this could increase if it proves popular.

"We have a very multicultural workforce, with British, Asian and African staff," Shahin added.

It is hoped the diverse workforce will provide an inclusive atmosphere for customers.

Lucretia McKechnie, a Maldon resident and Field Consultant at Subway, told Nub News she was "really excited" about the new branch.

"It offers free parking, which we know is a problem in Maldon – and people have to pay to park in the High Street."

Current trading hours for the store are Monday to Saturday, from 7am until 11pm; and Sundays from 8am until 6pm.

Meanwhile, the town's other Subway branch will continue to trade in the High Street.
