Maldon town councillor Abdul Hafiz - known as Jhual - and his wife Shamema Begum officially opened a new Indian restaurant on the High Street on Sunday, 1 August.
Maldon mayor David Ogg cut the ribbon to formally open Maldon Spice, which serves authentic Indian food, at 111 High Street.
Jhual, a former town mayor, was previously a partner in the popular Maldon Tandoori restaurant on the High Street. He recently stepped out on his own, with support from his wife Shamema, to set up Maldon Spice.
Maldon MP and media minister John Whittingdale attended the opening.
Other guests in attendance included Councillor Andrew Lay, who is the deputy mayor, and former mayors Richard Miller and Councillor Mark Heard, who is also the chairman of the district council.
Other guests were business owners from around Maldon.
