As the days grow longer and the first signs of spring emerge, Maldon Town Council's Environment Committee is hard at work preparing the Town's green spaces for the season ahead.

From floral displays to tree maintenance and biodiversity initiatives, a range of projects are underway to ensure Maldon remains a beautiful and welcoming place for residents, visitors, wildlife alike.

One of the most anticipated spring projects is the High Street Hanging Basket Scheme, which brings a vibrant display of flowers to the town each Summer.

Local businesses are invited to take part, with baskets installed and maintained by Skippers Ground Maintenance.

The popular initiative not only brightens the High Street but also supports the local economy by attracting visitors.

The committee continues to oversee the management of trees and green spaces throughout the town.

This Spring, work is underway to assess tree health and carry out necessary maintenance to ensure public safety and improve biodiversity.

Recent tree works at Warwick Crescent Allotments have helped to improve growing conditions for tenants by reducing overhanging branches that blocked light and drained soil nutrients.

Biodiversity remains a key priority, with the committee working to develop a new pesticide policy that considers the needs of allotment tenants while reducing chemical use in the town.

The findings of last year's ecological survey at Ware Pond are also being reviewed, with follow-up actions planned to improve water quality and support local wildlife.

Maldon in Bloom

The Maldon in Bloom group is a group of volunteers who enjoy community gardening and making a difference in some of the areas where they live.

They have bee running in Maldon for more than 25 years, and undertake tasks such as litter picking, flowerbed maintenance, and providing displays for events.

The Maldon in Bloom Gardening Competiton is back for 2025, celebrating the town's fantastic gardeners, green spaces and community spirit.

This year's theme is 'Land, Sea and Air,' inspired by the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

Residents are invited to put together their best floral displays, put on show their vibrant gardens and get imaginative with their planting.
