Members of Maldon Wycke Women's Institute were spreading the love in Maldon this weekend by handing out handmade green hearts in support of the Climate Coalition's Show the Love Campaign. Find out more information on this yearly campaign here.

Members, friends and children from Kidzone have all been busy making over 300 green hearts. All made using leftover craft materials and we also had some papier-mâché hearts containing seeds that could be planted in the garden.

Our original plan was to hand these out at the Promenade Park during Parkrun on Saturday morning. Storm Eunice decided she had other ideas. We therefore decided we would head up town and ask some of our local shops and the library if we could leave a box of hearts with them for customers to help themselves to.

Our first stop was the library - unknown to us they were holding a community volunteers morning and invited us to set up a table with our display. We cannot thank them enough for their kindness. They also had various events going on throughout the day for children, so we were able to distribute lots of hearts and spread the message of climate change.

A couple of our members sent green hearts to our local MP John Whittingdale, who I happened to bump into on Saturday and he mentioned the hearts he had received.

Some other local businesses that were happy for us to leave some hearts with them to hand to their customers were Willow and Fox, Silo Zero Waste Refillery, Whole Health Foods and the Maeldune Heritage Centre.

A huge thank you to all who were involved in helping with this campaign.
