MALDON'S historic Moot Hall is to hold a special open day for key workers and their families.

Guided tours will be provided at the event on Sunday, 4 July, being held as a way of celebrating Key Workers Day - and to say thank you.

A spokesperson for Moot Hall, in Maldon High Street, said: "To say thank you to ALL key workers for their work and efforts throughout the pandemic the Moot Hall will be open for you and your families to visit for free on one of our guided tours between 10am and 4pm on Sunday, 4 July."

Guided tours will take place at 10am, 11.30am,1pm and 2.30pm.

Each tour will include details of how the Moot Hall has stood at the centre of Maldon life for more than 600 years.

Those joining the tour will hear about Sir Robert D'Arcy who built the D'Arcy Tower and learn about its later functions as a prison, court room and council chamber.

The tour will end on the roof where you can enjoy 360 degree views across Maldon town, the Blackwater Estuary and surrounding countryside.

Advanced booking is recommended as spaces are limited, though some walk-in tickets may be possible on the day, subject to availability.

To book you can visit the Moot Hall website using the link here.

This event is funded and supported by Maldon Town Council and the Friends of the Moot Hall charitable trust.

Spaces limited to maintain social distancing. A face mask will be required.
