Would you like to know more about your own family history? Or maybe you have already started your research and would like to meet local people who have embarked upon a similar journey into the past. The following is and article from Chris Stringer, who runs Limebrook u3a's Family History Group - and there are contact details at the end for those who would like to find out more about the group and how to join it, too.

"We had a lovely meeting on Wednesday, 23rd June. All the group got together with a buffet

lunch in the garden. I asked people to bring something that was special to them and I was

not disappointed.

The photos here show what was on offer. At the end we had a "team"photo and for once, all the group are in it and holding one of my family trees.

Well, that's it for the summer - we do not meet in July or August. The next meeting will be at my home in Bicknacre on Wednesday, 23 September. I have two groups - the morning one starts at 10.30am and the other at 2.30pm.

We usually have a subject that I either research and/or ask members to contribute to. There is always time to deal with brick walls or questions after tea or coffee. Any notes I make, I email them to all the group afterwards, regardless of whether they attend or not.

Whether you are already researching your family history or just considering doing so, you will be very welcome. What you will find though is that it's really isn't as easy as the 'Who Do You Think You Are' team make out - they have about 10 experienced researchers and hours of research all condensed into an hour of TV, but if that doesn't put you off it can be really rewarding and satisfying. Still interested?

To find out more about this friendly group, just search for Limebrook u3a and get in touch through the website - it could lead to a new and exciting adventure with people who have shared hobbies and interests.
