Maldon's Limebrook u3a February newsletter

By The Editor 7th Sep 2021

The following is the February update from Maldon's Limebrook u3a from chairman Brian Harris. This includes details of the January Monthly Meeting as well as news of the Photography and Photoshop competitions coming up.

At our January Monthly Meeting we had 98 people attend using Zoom. We were entertained and informed by Andy Thomas who is an accomplished speaker. His topic "Unexplained Mysteries and Cover Ups" was very well received and we recommend him as a speaker.

Our next monthly meeting is being opened to guests who may be interested in seeing what our friendly u3a has to offer. Our speaker on Friday the 12th of February is Dr James Taylor who will be

presenting his talk "Humorous British Postcards".

James will show us Brilliant British Humour in the Forgotten Art of the Picture Postcard. The period will be from the 1840's to the 1950's. This will include artist-drawn postcards that were the most popular art form from the Edwardian era to the outbreak of World War II. They entertained, inspired, instructed, motivated, persuaded and lifted the spirits. Discover the popular themes and styles by the masters of the medium such as Mabel Lucie Attwell, Donald McGill and Fred Spurgin, and the reasons why their popularity waned with the British public.

If you would like to attend this meeting, please send your details to our Membership Secretary Tim Stubbings by email using the link here. and he will send you the joining instructions.

Each month Limebrook u3a have a competition run by the Photography Group. An entry from Carol Egelton won in January with her picture of a "Robin." The Photoshop competition entry by Paul Madge made us all smile with his "Rain Deer" entry.
