Maldon's Museum of Power launches pandemic appeal
Maldon's Museum of Power has launched an appeal to help it get through the Covid-19 pandemic.
The museum will remain open as usual for visitors, but has decided to cancel its events program for the rest of 2020 due to the latest restrictions.
The museum - a registered charity - which houses rare and historic engines in fine working condition in the former Langford Water Pumping Station, launched the fundraiser on both its Twitter account and Facebook page today (Saturday, 26 September).
The statement on the museum's Facebook page reads: "Following the tightening of Government restrictions re Covid19 the museum directors have decided that our main events program will be suspended for the rest of 2020.
"The Museum will remain open with current opening hours and we hope to bring you some small but exciting things to come and see during your visits. We appreciate your support and are working to provide a full 2021 events program.
"We have setup a fundraiser to help make sure the museum can survive the Covid-19 pandemic and any help you can give us is greatly appreciated. Thank you."
When Maldon Nub News visited the Steampunk Market last Sunday, held on the show field of the museum in Hatfield Road, Langford, those who work tirelessly to maintain and show the engines – including the famous steam pumping engine "Marshall" – were standing by inside the museum to proudly show the incredible machine to visitors. Marshall is a triple expansion steam pump that has been returned to working on steam after 50 years.
In a statement on Twitter, a spokesperson for the museum added: "The museum usually runs a full program of events such as its popular American Car Show, Bikermeet and Transportfest. The museum is also the home of steampunk in Essex.
"We also run school holiday activities and Christmas events.
"Covid-19 has meant that we have only been able to run three events this year. Any support you can give us is critical and appreciated." Anyone wishing to donate should visit the Museum of Power's Facebook page here for more details of the appeal and a link to the fundraiser.
