PLUME Academy students are celebrating spectacular GCSE results this morning (Thursday, 20 August) despite the trauma of this academic year.

An amazing 208 individual 9-8 grades (previously A*-A) were achieved at the academy in Fambridge Road – with 11 pupils hitting 10-plus grade 9-8s. Two students secured an incredible eight top grade 9s.

The students achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in 18 subjects, with 67 per cent of all grades awarded being from grades 9-4 (A*-C) across the board and a new record for the academy with nine subjects recording 75 per cent grades 9-4.

The academy has released the following results in different subject areas:

89 per cent 9-4 (A*-C) grades in Media Studies

82 per cent 9-4 (A*-C) grades in Design and Technology

81 per cent 9-4 (A*-C) grades in both French and Spanish

8 Grade 9 and 12 Grade 8 grades in Mathematics

8 Grade 9 and 10 Grade 8 grades in Biology

75 per cent of all grades in English Language and Literature were 9-4

66 per cent of all grades in Mathematics were 9-4

Some of Plume Academy's star Year 11 students include:

  • Jamie Steven with eight grade 9s and three grade 8s
  • Lucas Chaplin with eight grade 9s, two grade 8s and one grade 7
  • Martha Carlin with six grade 9s and five grade 8s
  • Daisy Jewell with seven grade 9s, three grade 8s and one grade 7
  • Isla Watterston with seven grade 9s, three grade 8s and one grade 7
  • Lily Peace with six grade 9s, two grade 8s and three grade 7s

Head of Year, Beth Meltzer, said: "I'm feeling really, really proud on what feels like an extremely positive day. What we need to take into account is not just the grades that the year group have achieved and very much earned, but how they've handled themselves over the past six months, too.

"There's been a lot of uncertainty, a lot of changes going on with GCSE grading and they've just remained really patient and again, I'm genuinely so proud of them."

Principal of Plume Academy, Carl Wakefield, said:

"I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of Year 11 and our team of staff for achieving these fantastic results. These outcomes are even more encouraging given the ongoing unprecedented national context."

"Results like these simply do not happen without a massive amount of commitment, dedication and sheer hard work from them and of course our excellent and highly skilled team of staff working in collaboration over a significant period of time.

"Therefore, students and staff alike should feel exceptionally proud of these superb outcomes. The same should also be felt by our tremendously supportive and loyal parents and carers who themselves have worked in partnership with the academy over the past five years, thus ensuring every single one of their children, our students, can now progress on to the next stage of their education, employment or training; it was great to see so many of them come in with their children this morning as well."
