Police and an ambulance responded to reports of a woman who was taken ill at the Rose & Crown pub in Maldon High Street on Friday night (September 15).

After their arrival, police arrested a man who is said to be a bouncer at the pub, although he was not working at the time.

A spokesperson for Essex Police told Nub News: "We were called at about 11.10pm by the ambulance service, to assist them following reports of a drink spiking.

"At the scene, we arrested a man in his twenties on suspicion of administering a noxious substance.

"The woman was taken to hospital in the care of the ambulance service."

A source told Nub News several punters were questioned by police, and an off-duty bouncer's belongings had been searched.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called to reports of drink spiking on the High Street in Maldon.

"An ambulance was sent to the scene and transported a woman to Broomfield Hospital for further assessment and care."
