Detectives have charged a man in connection with the murder of a woman in Great Baddow.

A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an investigation by Essex into a murder on Readers Court, Great Baddow.

Police were called to Dorset Avenue, Great Baddow at around 2.30 pm on Friday, February 9 following reports of a suspicious male.

After engaging with the man, officers attended an address in Readers Court in which they found a seriously injured woman inside the property.

The woman, who was in her 60s and remains unnamed, was pronounced dead on scene.

The man, Sebastian Compton of Readers Court, was then arrested and has now been charged with the woman's murder.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Monday, February 12.

Detective Chief Superintendent Rob Kirby, who is leading the investigation, reassures those living in the Great Baddow area that there is no wider threat to the community: "I know that this will cause this quiet community great concern and fully understand they will have questions about what has happened, but I would ask that people don't speculate.

"We are working to establish the facts leading up to the woman's death and we will remain at the scene whilst we carry out our enquiries."

The detective adds: "Although we have secured a charge, our investigation continues.

"I'd continue to ask anyone who has information or footage of any part of the incident, particularly in the areas of Readers Court and Dorset Avenue, to get in contact."

You can submit a report to Essex Police via their website or by using the online Live Chat service.
