Maldon's MP has confirmed his support for investment at Bradwell Power Station following Labour's nuclear power announcement..

In a statement on Tuesday June 10, the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, set out the Government's plans to invest in nuclear power by committing £14.2 billion for the construction of Sizewell C, over £2.5 billion for small modular reactors (SMRs), and an additional £2.5 billion for fusion research.

He also stated the Government's ambition to facilitate private-led advanced nuclear projects – advanced modular reactors and SMRs - in the UK.

MP Sir John Whittingdale said: "I welcome the Government's commitment to proceed with new nuclear development which is essential for the UK's energy security and to reduce carbon emissions from conventional generation.

"Bradwell has a long connection with nuclear power generation and was one of the Government's designated sites for new nuclear investment.

"As the Secretary of State confirmed, it remains a good location and I certainly intend to take up his offer to discuss this with him and his officials".
