A NEW socially distanced coffee morning is being launched in Maldon for people who want an extra safe place to chat.
The weekly sessions, which will have enhanced Covid safety measures in place, will run from 10am to midday on Wednesdays, starting September 9.
Sarah Troop, Director at Maldon and District CVS (Community Volunteer Service), one of the organisations working on the pandemic community response for the town, said: "We know from our helpline that not everyone is comfortable to go back out into the community and it is difficult for the all the town's community groups to re-open while there are so many unknowns.
"This space is a middle ground between staying at home and going to pubs or coffee shops where some people may not feel comfortable."
Pre-booking will be essential as spaces are limited and to comply with test and trace processes.
The coffee morning sessions will follow enhanced social distancing and infection control processes. All volunteers will wear face coverings, refreshments provided will be single use and specific to each individual, seating will be at two metres apart and hygiene stations and facilities will be provided.
Guests will be asked to wear a face covering when not eating or drinking. Sarah added: "We know we cannot eliminate all risk from the environment, but we will be doing everything we can to ensure that people feel comfortable tocome and chat. Many people have been alone for many months so if they want to take a first step we want to give them somewhere to go."
Sessions will initially run weekly in September but will be reviewed and may open more or less frequently or in different parts of the district according to
demand. To find out more or book a place call 01621 851891 or visit Maldon CVS safe space page.
