Maldon and Tiptree Football Club has a new chairman, it was announced today (Friday, 11 December).

Ron Dangerfield, who has been the General Manager at the club in Park Drive, Maldon, is taking up the role with immediate effect.

Ron's appointment comes after former chairman Ed Garty announced his sudden departure at the start of October. Ed, who had been chairman at the club for a decade, decided to step down following the decision of the FA and Isthmian League to "null and void" the season.

Ron - who has a history working in football for more than 26 years - joined Maldon and Tiptree FC in November 2019.

Ron has been influential in supporting The Jammers as they have faced the challenging double whammy of the departure of their former chairman and the strains of the pandemic.

At the same time, an announcement has been made that Club Secretary Roger Stapleton is stepping down from his position, again with immediate effect.

A spokesperson for the club said: "Roger has donated countless hours over a number of seasons, whether it has been to arrange the arrival of the national television, to meet players so they complete their registration forms, to preparing the pitch, to dealing with the recent Covid-19 pandemic and much, much more.

"Having been the heartbeat of the football club for a long time, Roger will be sorely missed by everyone at the club, however we look forward to seeing him on the terraces, being able to watch a game in peace, without having to turn up extremely early to make sure everything was ready. On an interim basis, Ron will take on the role as Club Secretary."

Current Media and Communications Manager, Richard Buckby, is also taking up a new role at Park Drive as official Press Secretary - a role which he is combining with the former one.

Richard said: "We are still looking for additional volunteers to assist with our match day operations. From stewards to turnstile operators, media assistants, match reporters to programme sellers, all positions are voluntary, and we need more."

Anyone interested can contact Ron on 07711 073344 or by email using the link here.
