Plans have been drawn up for a new 249-home housing estate in Southminster, which is expected to house up to 573 people.

Bloor Homes is proposing the large development which also includes, public open space, associated landscaping, highways, drainage and other infrastructure works at land off David Fisher Way, Southminster.

The planning documents show the developer says the site "can accommodate" a maximum of 249 dwellings, with 30 per cent of all housing on site being affordable, providing up to 75 affordable homes.

The new population would equate to approximately 573 persons – the documents state. The plans include a range of property sizes, from one bedroom "starter" homes to four bedroom "family homes."

The firm is also proposing "considerable" financial contributions towards infrastructure such as schools, health care, provision of commercial uses, highways and "sustainable" transport.

The planning documents state: "Land at Scotts Hill offers a fantastic opportunity for the delivery of much-needed new homes in Maldon, offering the potential for up to 249 new dwellings in a range of sizes and tenures which are most needed within the area.

"Not only that, the site provides a significant amount of new public open space.

"The open spaces offer the potential for multi-functional green spaces, including sustainable drainage, landscape for amenity space, formal and informal children's play, and a biodiversity net gain."

The plans are currently pending consideration.
