A brand new music station dedicated to Maldon and the surrounding towns and villages launches at 6am tomorrow (19 October), with a little help from legendary broadcaster Radio Caroline.

Caroline Community Radio goes live with a 24-hour mix of music and community programmes. The station will broadcast to the Maldon District on 94.7 FM and across the UK and worldwide online here.

Radio Caroline DJs Ray Clark, Johnny Lewis, Graham Bannerman and Peter Philips, who between them have more than 100 years' broadcasting experience, will be presenting music programmes during the daytime. They will also be helping to train local volunteers presenting community programmes in the evenings. From Saturday lunchtime to 6am Monday you can hear Radio Caroline's popular Flashback service.

"We asked people to get in touch with us if they were interested in getting involved with Caroline Community Radio and we were delighted with the response," said Ray Clark.

"We now have local people involved both on air and behind the scenes, who have a genuine interest in broadcasting. We are keen to encourage new talent and we have found some."

Local community programme presenters include Owen Ward, Lucien and Kev, Josh Holmes-Bright, Kevin Briggs, Ian Crisp, Michael A, and Laura Tuckey, daughter of rock star Suzi Quatro. Although Caroline Community Radio 94.7 FM is a completely independent and voluntary organisation, it will be assisted by staff from the legendary Radio Caroline, benefitting from the experience and expertise of the former offshore pirate radio station in areas such as programming, engineering and training. Radio Caroline changed the face of broadcasting when it came on the scene in 1964, broadcasting pop music from a radio ship off the Essex coast.
