Nominations open for 'Honorary Freeman of Maldon'

Maldon Town Council is seeking nominations for this year's award of Honorary Freeman of the Town.

The award aims to celebrate those who have demonstrated "outstanding commitment and contribution to the social, cultural and educational benefit of the Town".

"A nominee will have given extensive and distinguished service to the community that goes beyond purely the occupational but will include service to organisations or groups of a largely voluntary nature," a Town Council spokesperson said.

"The nominee must have made an outstanding contribution to the Town such that the nominee's collective contribution can be seen to stand above the contributions made by most other people."

Once conferred, holders of the Freedom of the Town will be invited to attend:

  • The Annual Mayor Making event
  • All other formal Civic events
  • Any other Town function at the discretion of the current (serving) Town Mayor
  • Will be placed in the Civic procession with Past Town Mayors.

Freedom is an Honorary title only and is conferred for life, unless voted on for removal by a majority of the Council.

Any person living in the electoral town of Maldon is eligible for nomination by any member of the public. Nominations are considered annually, although Freedom of the Town may only be awarded on rare and exceptional occasions.
