LOCAL residents are reminded of the ongoing consultation from government about the future of local authorities in Essex.

In January, after receiving feedback from residents, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will make a decision on which recommndations from councils across the county it will support.

Four proposals have been submitted by different local authorities in Essex.

Maldon Council is one of ten councils supporting the creation of five new unitary authorities a plan that will see it partnered with Brentwood and Chelmsford. Read that proposal here.

The consultation is open until 11 January.
