Maldon District Council has launched an investigation into several alleged "repeated incidents of vandalism and damage" to Promenade Park.

The council said that 14 lights have been damaged "beyond repair", with the necessary replacement lights and repairs costing more than £5,000.

The alleged incidents are now being investigated by the council's antisocial behaviour officer alongside Essex Police, who are reviewing footage and witness statements.

A spokesperson for the council said "the area is monitored by CCTV cameras" and "the damage is being investigated to identify those responsible".

They continued: "This is putting unnecessary pressure on our staff and means the park will now have fewer lights available to aid visitors walking along the paths in the park.

"If anyone has any information, please contact Maldon District Council on https://www.maldon.gov.uk/contact, citing reference number 21/00106/M_GENE."
