Places Leisure Awarded Funding for a Six-Week Aqua Exercise Programme

Places Leisure, who operate Leisure Centres for Maldon District Council, has been awarded £6.5k from the Public Health Accelerator Bid (PHAB) fund to run a six-week aqua exercise programme in collaboration with, GPs, Hospitals and Physiotherapists.

The aqua exercise programme aims to offer a holistic approach to fitness and rehabilitation by utilizing the therapeutic benefits of water.

Places Leisure operates the Blackwater Leisure Centre on Park Drive, as well as the Dengie Hundred Sports Centre in Burnham-on-Crouch.

Cllr Richard Siddall, Leader of Maldon District Council, said; "I am delighted that our Leisure partner has been successful in receiving funding to support this six-week aqua exercise programme.

" Together, we are creating opportunities for residents to embrace a healthier lifestyle and fostering partnerships that enhance the quality of life in our community."

The programme will be run by certified and experienced aquatic fitness instructors who will lead the sessions, providing expert guidance and support throughout the programme.

Jamie Hynard, Contracts Health and Wellbeing Manager said; "Places Leisure is committed to fostering a sense of community well-being, so we are delighted to have received funding for this exciting aqua exercise programme.

" The aqua exercise programme spans six weeks, offering a structured and progressive series of sessions.

" Participants can expect a variety of water-based activities aimed at improving strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness."

Participants can be referred to this scheme by their GP, Hospital or Physiotherapist which will help them take a step towards improved health and fitness.

A start date is yet to be confirmed.

The Public Health Accelerator Bid scheme was set up as part of Essex County Council's commitment to reducing health inequalities, and support the aims of the Essex Wellbeing, Public Health and Communities Business Plan.
