A planning application submitted in August for internal alterations to a Burnham-on-Crouch Kebab shop has been withdrawn.

The application asked for permission to convert existing rooms on the premises into a management office and staff sleeping area.

Burnham Grill, a popular Kebab shop on Burnham-on-Crouch High Street, has recently withdrawn the plans after objections from neighbours and Town Council concerns.

The application said the resting area simply aimed to "allow employees to recuperate" during long shifts, and to "reduce fatigue and promote overall health".

It added that on-site accommodation for staff rest periods could significantly enhance operational efficiency and optimize staffing levels, as well as make the restaurant a more attractive employer.

However, the scheme posed issues for town councillors, who cited concerns the restaurant was not suitable to be used as a residential property.

They also highlighted issues with the proximity of the proposed sleeping area to the cooking area, health and safety concerns and potential for exploitation of working hours.

The proposal documents maintained any alterations to the restaurant were "designed to enhance the functionality and sustainability of the restaurant by providing essential facilities for employees", and are aligned with local and national planning policies.

The application is now listed as withdrawn.
