MORE than 80 commercial vehicles were stopped and checked in Heybridge yesterday (Thursday, 8 April) by police and district council officers in a bid to tackle the fly-tipping problem.
The day's work was as a result of partnership working between Essex Police's Rural Engagement Team and Maldon District Council.
The vehicles were checked to see if they were carrying waste and whether they had the correct documentation.
In a Twitter post yesterday evening, a spokesperson for Maldon District Council said: " In excess of 80 commercial vehicles stopped and checked for waste carriers/documentation in Heybridge today.
"Together we will #SCRAPflytipping."
