A PEDESTRIAN has died on the southbound A12 close to the Galleywood turn-off (junction 16).

The woman was struck by a vehicle shortly before 2am today (Tuesday, 3 August) and died at the scene.

The southbound carriageway has been closed this morning while officers carried out enquiries at the scene and they have launched an appeal for witnesses.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: "We need anyone driving on the northbound carriageway between midnight and 1.55am who saw a woman on or near to the road – either on her own or getting out of a vehicle – to contact us."

Police are also interested in any dash cam footage of the woman or the incident that drivers may have.

If you have any information you can submit a report online at the Essex POlice website using the link here or use the 'Live Chat' button to speak to an online operator between 7am and 11pm. You should quote incident 77 of 3 August.

You can also call police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
