Proposals by the South Essex Parking Parternship to change parking restrictions in the Maldon district have been revealed.

Among the roads affected are Market Hill, New Street and White Horse Lane in Maldon, Devonshire Road and Foundry Lane in Burnham-on-Crouch and South Street in Southminster.

Notice of the order has been given by Chelmsford City Council, acting on behalf of the South Essex Parking Partnership, in exercise of the delegated powers of Essex County Council.

The plans include revoking the conflicting "No Waiting at Any Time/No Loading Monday to Saturday 8am-9.30am" restrictions on part of the east side of Market Hill and the "No Waiting at Any Time" restrictions on part of the northwest side of Foundry Lane.

The traffic authority has also proposed to introduce "No Waiting at Any Time" restrictions on different parts of the northwest side of Foundry Lane, part of the southwest side of Devonshire Road and a section of the west side of South Street.

Introducing "No Waiting 8.30am-6pm" restrictions on part of the northeast side of Devonshire Road has also been proposed.

Additionally, the order includes replacing the "No Waiting Monday to Saturday 8am-6pm" with "No Waiting at Any Time" restrictions on parts of the north and south sides of New Street, sections of both sides of the southern arm of New Street and parts of White Horse Lane.

The South Essex Parking Partnership proposed to make the order following a parking review of the specified roads, in efforts to improve sightlines and better facilitate the passage of traffic in the areas.

In the proposal documents, it states: "It has been observed that the disabled parking bay situated opposite the town hall [on Market Hill] has a conflicting 'No Waiting at Any Time/No Loading Monday - Saturday 8am – 9.30am' restriction across part of its length.

"Therefore, the Traffic Regulation Order for this must be amended to remove the conflicting restriction from the disabled parking bay."

It adds: "Concerns have been raised by Maldon District Council regarding restricted traffic flow due to parked vehicles on New Street and White Horse Lane.

"It is therefore proposed to amend existing 'No Waiting Monday – Saturday 8am - 6pm' restrictions to 'No Waiting at Any Time' restrictions except for some short lengths of off-peak parking for adjacent residents.

"This will improve sight lines for all road users and better facilitate the passage of traffic."
