Society to host talk about Beckingham Hall

On Thursday, 6 June the Maldon Society will host a presentation entitled The History of Beckingham Hall

David Newman, local historian will give a talk which will cover the period from the Hall's past associations with the wealth friends of Henry VIII up to the period up to the period when the property changed hands in 2017.

The Hall and its lands located on the Goldhanger side of Tolleshunt Major were in Trust to a North American missionary society which used the income to educate Native American children and bring them up in the Protestant way.

The funds were also used to create and maintain a library in London that still exists today.

The doors to the Cygnet Room behind The Swan Hotel, High Street, Maldon will open at 6.30pm with the meeting beginning at 7pm.

There will be the usual raffle which helps raise necessary funds towards the cost of room hire and cost of speakers.
