Maldon's Thames sailing barge lovers will be pleased to learn that a series of spring sailings have been announced.

Thames Sailing Barge Trust has announced 13 half-day and three full-day trips - all leaving from Maldon - on dates from April to June.

The excursions will be on the Thames sailing barge Centaur, which was built in 1895.

The trips aboard the historic vessel will either be three-hour sails, scheduled for both morning and afternoon options and including refreshments.

The full-day trips will last 12 hours and include a stop off at West Mersea for a few hours.

Half-day trips cost £34 per person including refreshments and full-day trips are £95 per person and include a cooked breakfast.

The trips will be Covid secure and if for some reason Covid guidelines change and do not allow the trips to go, you can transfer to another date or have your payment refunded.

A spokesperson for the Trust said: "The Trust is a charity and these trips have been organised to help us maintain our two sailing barges.

"Please book your places early as we expect high demand as we come out of lockdown and people take their holidays in the UK."
