THREE people have been left critically injured in a crash on the Maldon by-pass.

A baby in one of the vehicles has been taken to hospital as a precaution, while a woman in her twenties and a man and woman in their fifties all have life-threatening injuries.

Essex Police were called to the scene on the A414 shortly after 2.40pm today (Friday 7 August).

The accident involves a black Ford Kuga and a white Ford Transit van.

The road will remain closed for some time and road users are asked to avoid the area where possible and to expect delays.
