Tollesbury is set to host its first ever Art Trail later this month, with the village set to be bursting with local creations.

The riverside village will transform on Saturday, September 28 as nearly 30 artists will display their art at various locations.

Exhibits will include weaving, art, leather goods, pottery, paintings and more.

Anita Frost, one of four organisers of the Trail, told Maldon Nub News: "Tollesbury has a lot of creative people who do lots of different things: Leather work, pottery, art, metal work, wood work.

"While helping to run the village's gallery, Whimbrel Art, we started seeing more people coming forward and telling us about what they make and create.

"We have several groups in the village as well like Tollesbury Creative Group, Photography Group, a writing group..

"It made us think about getting everyone together, inspired by local art trails such as Burnham and Mersea Island, and put on our own show.

"Not only is it a great opportunity to display all the great local artist's work, it helps us showcase Tollesbury to visitors because it really is a beautiful place."

Art Trail Maps will be available at The Congregational Church in the village centre or Whimbrel Art Gallery.

There will be exhibitions across the village, including a special memorial exhibition for the late Mike Lang, a well-known local watercolour artist.

Best known for his exhibits at the Tiptree Tea Room in Heybridge Basin, Mike ran a popular Art Group in the village before his passing earlier this year.

The exhibit hopes to honour him and his work, with his daughter set to sell some of his artwork.

There will also be a special exhibition by Tollesbury Maritime Heritage on the waterfront, which will be exhibiting photos and much more.

The exhibition will showcase the village's long connection to boat building and the sea.

It aims to tell the story of one of the last Bawleys built in Tollesbury, which the charity is currently fundraising to restore.

The award-winning Village Larder, which is run by local residents, will be offering lunches, cake, and drinks, with all money raised being used for the local food bank. Many other eateries in the village will be open too.
