PLANS to turn a shelter at Promenade Park into a kiosk selling refreshments will go before Maldon Town Council's Planning Committee for comment on Monday (26 April).

However, the final say on the application from Mark Salisbury of Mrs Salisbury's Famous Tearooms will be had by Maldon District Council on a date yet to be set.

The shelter is very close to the site of the popular Mrs Salisbury's van that has been a familiar site at the since last summer, providing an extra outlet for the well-known tearooms in Church House, at the High Street end of Bright's Path.

The application paperwork details the plans for "converting and renovating an existing public seating shelter into a food serving kiosk" at the Prom.

Comments made in response to the application so far by council officers on public documentation include: "I would encourage colleagues to consider the installation of new/replacement sheltered seating in this part of the park as part of the development as this is very limited and valued by visitors on inclement days."
