THE A12 has been closed in both directions between Hatfield Peverel and Boreham due to a serious accident - with the southbound carriageway expected to remain closed into the evening rush hour today (Monday, 21 June).

It was reported that two vehicles were in collision shortly before midday and one person has been taken to hospital in a potentially serious condition.

A policer spokesperson said: "Both carriageways are currently closed so we can investigate, recover the vehicles, and to allow repair work to be carried out.

"We anticipate the southbound carriageway will remain shut into this evening's rush hour."

"Please avoid the area if you can and plan your route."
