Two arrests after Great Baddow vineyard burglary

Two suspected burglars were caught more than 11 miles from the crime scene by officers in the same night.
Police were called to a business premises following a burglary at the Vineyards, Great Baddow, shortly after 1.15am on Thursday April 3
Upon arrival of officers, they discovered smashed glass and a damaged door. The safe was also discovered missing.
Officers identified a car of interest and a search began. Approximately 90 minutes later, Roads Policing Unit officers on patrol in Basildon spotted a woman driving the same car.
Upon seeing police, a man exited the car and was detained as he tried to run off. A crowbar was found by officers nearby.
The car left before officers could stop it, but just 30 minutes later, the car was spotted at Wickford Court and the driver was arrested. In the rear of the car, officers found a safe.
A 46-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were both arrested on suspicion of burglary. Both remain in custody.
Adam Pipe, head of our roads policing unit, said: "This is a great example of how officers respond quickly to an ongoing incident and work together to ensure an arrest, in this case, taking them from Great Baddow to Basildon.
"Their diligence and professionalism is always at the heart of what they do so they can catch offenders and they did so in quick time."
