Two teenage boys have been arrested after a man was assaulted in a car park in Witham.

Police were called to the Mayland Road car park on Tuesday, October 15.

A man was assaulted after challenging a group of children, who had seen to be throwing firecrackers in the area between 4.45pm and 5pm.

As a result of enquiries by officers, on Thursday October 17, two 14-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The boys were questioned and realised on bail with strict conditions while the investigation continues.

Inspector Philip Jackson, of Braintree and Uttlesford Community Policing Team, said:  "I'm aware details and speculation about this worrying incident have been widely shared on social media.

"I understand the public concern, and I want to reassure the community that I have dedicated officers in my team to investigating this incident to the fullest extent.

"We are not currently looking for any other suspects and our enquiries have progressed well.

"But I would urge anyone who may have further information to reach out to us, we'd really like to hear from you."
