Limebrook u3a recently launched "The Curry Club" and it was immediately oversubscribed.

The plan was to take advantage of the many Indian restaurants in the local area and visit them in a convivial group.

They have so far visited four in Maldon and Heybridge area. Visits have taken place to Balti Bhujon, Bengal Niights, Maldon Spice and The Indian Grill. This month they are travelling further afield visiting Zara Indian Cuisine in Danbury.

The success of the venture and the realization that many restaurants can only cope with a limited group size has meant that another group has formed.

Meryl Rawlings reports: "The Nature Group went for a walk along the Charles III England Coast Path.

Starting at the Chequers Public House Car Park in Goldhanger, we walked down the road to the park and then across to the sea wall and headed towards Mill Beach walking until we came to the shelter before descending onto the shingle beach.

"We had hoped to find crabs by turning over the stones but only found lots of sea snail, cockle and oyster shells along with jellyfish and seaweed.

"On climbing back onto the sea wall, we retraced our steps and headed towards Tollesbury.

"It was low tide and it was surprising to see so many decaying wooden hulls in the Creek. The only sea birds we saw were gulls and terns.

"We then turned inland and walked beside recently cut hay and unripe maize.

"We were a bit luckier with the birds on this part of the walk seeing a yellowhammer and longtail tits.

"We returned via the Church to the Chequers where we all enjoyed the food. The flat walk was 3.5 miles."

Howard Corlett took a photograph of the score board at Maddison Heights, where a rare event at the 10-pin Bowling group took place.

Brian's Four-bagger

Brian Box achieved a Turkey, which is three strikes in succession. Normally that would be enough to celebrate. He then managed another strike to have four in succession.

After a bit of research, it was discovered that this is known as a four-bagger. That's the first one since the group started back in July 2021. Huge congratulations to Brian.

The French Group's Terry Wood says: "We recently talked about our holidays and what we'd been doing over the summer and then turned to the more important subject of French cakes and pastries – helped by a full colour guide.

"We practised distinguishing between them and ordering the ones that you really want, then took our refreshments with a plate of Moroccan pastries."

The Garden Chat Group visited Hyde Hall and they focused mainly on the vegetable garden. They saw how you can use old bicycles to support sunflowers which is an interesting idea for small gardens.

Unfortunately, the group is unable to currently take new members as it is fully subscribed.
