UPDATE: Shops and services allowed in second national lockdown
THIS second national lockdown is very different to the first and the streets of Maldon district look and feel much busier than they did in the spring.
So here's a list of some different types of shops that are and are not allowed to open as usual. In addition, even at shops that are not allowed to open to customers, click and collect services can still be in place. However, it is important to bear in mind that some businesses may have decided not to open, so it's always best to double check before you go.
Shops Allowed to Open (Covid-secure arrangements must be in place):
Supermarkets and shops, farm shops and market stalls selling food
• Off-licences• Garden centres
• Hardware stores and building supplies• Banks and building societies, post offices and those providing some other financial services
• Those providing medical services, including opticians, pharmacies, dental surgeries, chiropractors, etc.• Vets and pet shops, including some animal services such as dog grooming
• Petrol stations and motorway service stations• MOT and car repair services, also bicycle shops
• Agricultural supplies• Taxis and mini-cabs
• Car and van hire services• Storage facilities
• Dry cleaners and launderettes• Funeral directors
• Take-away food and drink services are permitted until 10pm, but these must not be consumed outside the premises unless in a situation where this is unavoidable, such as at an airport. It is important to note that alcohol with take-away services must be ordered by phone or online.Shops that are not allowed to open (click and collect only is permitted):
• Clothes and fashion accessories shops• Homeware and furniture shops
• Car showrooms (except for vehicle hire)• Mobile phone shops
• Electrical shops• All market stalls selling non-essential items
• Dressmakers and tailors• Betting shops
• Vape and cigarette and tobacco shops• Entertainment venues, including museums, theatres, cinemas and other indoor visitor attractions
• Hotels and guest houses (there are some exemptions)• All hair salons, beauty, aesthetics and tanning salons, nail bars, tattooists, piercing services, massage parlours and spas. It is also important to note here that these services cannot be provided at private homes.
Other services that are still available:
These include building and building maintenance services, gardening and landscaping services, etc. Again, Covid-safety measures must be in place at all times.
