Welcome news: The rate of new cases for Maldon district is continuing to drop

The Covid-19 infection rate for Maldon district has continued to fall in the past week and has dropped more than 30 per cent in six days.

The latest complete figures for the seven days up to Tuesday, 12 January, show that there were 395 new cases recorded for Maldon district, equal to 608.4 cases per 100,000.

On Wednesday, 6 January - six days earlier - there were 573 new cases in the previous seven days, equal to 882.1 cases per 100,000 population.

Exactly one week before that, on 30 December, the seven-day infection rate for the district was 925.6 per 100,000 – and by 2 January, that had risen to 1008.5 cases per 100,00.

The infection rate for every district in the Essex county area is now falling, with the latest figures for the whole of Essex showing 10,731 confirmed new cases in the seven days up to Tuesday, 12 January.

This compares to 15,593 new cases in the seven days leading up to 6 January, equal to 1,055 cases per 100,000 people.

The England average seven-day infection rate up to 11 January is around 476 cases per 100,000.
