EYEWITNESS reports indicate two women in a car that left the road and ended up on its side in Maldon High Street this afternoon (Saturday, 24 April) have suffered no serious injuries following a speedy rescue by firefighters.

Firefighters were on the scene within minutes of the accident, which happened at 5.30pm at the lower end of the High Street. They worked swiftly to get the driver and passenger out of the car as it lay on the pavement at the front of the Bathtub showroom and the flats next door - freeing them in little more than half an hour after they were called.

The road was cleared completely and the car removed from the scene before 8pm.

A spokesperson for Essex Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters rescued two people who were trapped in their vehicle following a road traffic collision in Maldon.

"Crews rescued the two people from their vehicle by 6.03pm and they were left in the care of the Ambulance Service."
