Lucy Hutchings' inspirational design for the RHS Hampton Court show

A POPULAR local garden centre is supporting Suffolk-based designer and author Lucy Hutchings with her edible allotment garden design for the RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival in July.

The plants, including chillies, heirloom tomatoes and edible flowers like nasturtium, are being grown and nurtured in the production nursery at Perrywood Garden Centre in Tiptree.

MALDON District Council has decided to return to a full schedule of face-to-face meetings following the Government's decision not to renew the pandemic legislation allowing them to be held remotely.

However, at the Extraordinary Meeting of the full council debating the issue last night (Thursday, 29 April) one councillor made clear that he felt the Covid-safety measures agreed to by the members were against the Nuremberg Code.

Hurricanes at Debden, perimeter defences at Hornchurch, and the control tower at North Weald

The 1969 film 'Battle of Britain' still has the power to captivate, and it's from this film that we retain enduring images of anxious officers scanning plotting tables as WAAFs moved blocks representing fleets of incoming German bombers and fighters.

Names like North Weald and Hornchurch also linger from the film, which is now closer in time to the year it represents than it is to the present day. Significant sections were filmed at North Weald, and a real wartime hanger was blown up at Duxford for an action sequence of German bombing.

'Chandlers' in Silver Street, Maldon

THE Maldon Society is to host an online talk by the district's Conservation Officer on the restoration of 'Chandlers' at 4, Silver Street.

Works to the house have unveiled that it is one of the oldest homes in the town and next Thursday (6 May), Maldon District's Conservation Officer Tim Howson will tell those who join him on Zoom all about the fascinating restoration and what it has revealed about its history.

A BURNHAM mother has told of her worries for her young son's future because of the lack of special school provision within Maldon district.

Maldon is one of only three of the 12 districts in the Essex county area to be entirely without a special school or special education provision. Special schools or specialist provision with mainstream schools offer education for children who would not be able to progress on the usual course of GCSE study.
