In a statement released yesterday evening (Thursday, 10 December), Leader of Essex County Council (ECC), Councillor David Finch, said: The county council's position is clear – Tier Two remains the right place for Essex to be this Christmas.

Brickhouse Farm scheme drawing: the work is now near completion

WORKS to alleviate flooding problems at Brickhouse Farm in Maldon are almost complete.

The engineering aspect of the works has just been finished and from next Monday (14 December) tree planting will begin around the new water detention basin, with the idea of giving them a chance to settle over the Christmas and New Year period and become established over the winter months.

The Essex County Council area has reached a seven-day Covid infection rate of just over 200 cases per 100,000 population.

There has been a rise in the rate of Covid infection across the county, with a rise from 138.2 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days leading up to 26 November to a confirmed 169.4 per 100,000 in the week up to 3 December.

Maldon District Council will decide on the controversial application next week

A decision by Maldon District Council on the controversial expansion of a business park is expected next week.

There have been 38 letters of objection lodged with the council against plans for 13 new industrial and business units, an office block and a café at Beckingham Business Park in Beckingham Street, Tolleshunt Major.

A Grays pensioner was the first person in the region that includes Maldon to be vaccinated with the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine yesterday (Tuesday, 8 December)..

Frederick Benton, 94, a World War II veteran, was selected to be the first person to be vaccinated at Basildon and Thurrock Hospital – one of 50 hubs across the country chosen to administer initial does of the new jab.
