Maldon district councillors have agreed to adopt a Climate Emergency Statement.

At a meeting of the full council tonight (Thursday, 4 February) the "statement of intent" was agreed by assent (by all councillors).

One woman's idea of putting together 'gratitude' packages for NHS key workers across the Dengie has resulted in 140 individual bags six hampers being delivered this week, thanks to volunteers across Burnham and a number of the district's villages.

Now the project - called 'Dengie Gratitude Packages - Hug in a Bag' has its own Facebook group and plans deliveries to Broomfield and surrounding hospitals every week through NHS Community Donations. The group also wants to shower other frontline workers with gratitude straight from the community, including those in pharmacies, the postal service, funeral directors, care homes and care agencies.

The major incident declared in Essex in December has been ended as the NHS is now in "a stable condition" across the county.

The major incident was declared by the Essex Resilience Forum (ERF) on 29 December in response to the county's health services becoming in danger of being overwhelmed. The move meant that the county could ask the Government for help.

A new Covid vaccination centre has opened at Chelmsford City Racecourse today (Monday, 1 February).

The centre in Great Leighs, Chelmsford started delivering the life-saving vaccines to people in the top four priority groups this morning.

Nub News reported last Autumn on the renovation work at 4 Silver Street ("Chandlers") which involves peeling back layers of later alterations prior to sympathetic restoration. Since then, exciting new discoveries have enabled experts to date the building significantly earlier than previously thought.

The house is currently listed as a late 16th Century building, but work confirms that it contains the remains of a 15th Century house, with a single-storey central hall and two two-storey cross-wings.

A Maldon woman who ran 60k to raise £1,131 for the Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) charity is asking for people to send cards to help a Second World War hero who will have to celebrate his 100th birthday in lockdown.

Lisa Hawkes signed up for the RBLI Tommy Club 10k Challenge in lockdown last year after taking up running with her friend and neighbour Alison Vincent, who is also in her support bubble.
