A MAJOR development in Burnham-on-Crouch has been given the go-ahead by Maldon District Council.

The plans for the site on land north-west of 2, Maldon Road, include 103 retirement bungalows, a 70-bedroom care home, 55-bed assisted living apartments, community centre, medical centre, sports facilities and allotments. The sports facilities will include an open air swimming pool and tennis courts – and there will be eight key workers' flats, office and maintenance buildings, too.

MALDON district's 35 Covid-19 victims could be among those remembered at a permanent Essex memorial.

Essex County Council will discuss the possibility of creating the suggested memorial to the victims of Covid-19 next Tuesday (October 13).

Any newcomer to Maldon will quickly hear the name Bentall – or Bentall's – mentioned somewhere or somehow. The famous Bentall's factory is indeed very much a part of living memory, having closed its gates in the 1980s after a history dating back 150 years in the town.

THE number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Maldon district has dropped back down below the county average.

There have been seven confirmed cases in the district over the seven days up to yesterday (Friday, 2 October), equal to 10.8 per 100,000 population. That compares to 16.8 per 100,000 average for the Essex County Council area overall. The county has seen a total of 250 new cases in the last seven days.
